DS Smith's New Report Tracks Progress of Sustainability Initiatives

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith plc released Sustainability Report 2019, which focuses on the recyclability and sustainability of its packaging. The company has ensured that its packaging has adapted to rapidly changing public sentiments and requirements outlined by government legislations.

As per estimates, an average European generates 170 kilograms of packaging waste every year. Nearly 85.8% of corrugated packaging in the Europe since 1950 has been recycled, as opposed to the low recycling rate of plastic, which stands at 9%. DS Smith report said that the company aims to manufacture 100% reusable or recyclable packaging by 2025. The ambitious goal not only drives the sustainability of its packaging, but also reflects its commitment to recyclability.

The DS Smith Recycling division has processed more than 5.1 million tonnes of recyclable materials in 2018. The company has been actively working to reduce plastic packaging, through its network of PackRight Centres. The innovations at Impact Centres are aimed at exploring better packaging alternatives. The company has been successful in installing cutting-edge performance packaging technology at several of its facilities across the globe, the report said.
