ONTARIO, CANADA (Scrap Monster ): Corner Brook Pulp and Paper has decided to implement a rightsizing plan in order to improve its competitiveness.
After a meeting with the union executives, the company announced the immediate termination of its nine employees. Also, it reduced 33 additional positions and four vacancies that will not be filled.
The decision was taken to reduce labour costs. In order to be within the first grade of the industry, workforce needs to be reduced. So it plans to make further labour force adjustments.
However, the company will try to help to minimize the impact of its rightsizing process on its employees and their families.
The company is a major producer of publication papers, tissue, lumber etc and a leader of paper recycling in North America. It operates facilities in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador and the United States.
