Ocean Spray Teams Up With TerraCycle to Recycle Plastic Packaging

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Ocean Spray announced that it has entered into a new partnership with TerraCycle to unveil a new recycling program for its flexible plastic packaging.

The consumers will have to sign up for a free TerraCycle account online. After this, the registered customers could start collecting Ocean Spray® flexible plastic CRAISINS® DRIED CRANBERRIES and snack packaging in any box of their choice. When the collection box is full, they have to download and print a free shipping label on the collection box and send via UPS to TerraCycle.

The shipments will be awarded 100 points per pound. The awarded TerraCycle points can be allocated toward charitable gifts or redeemed as payment to non-profit organization or school.

The consumers are not allowed to send cardboard boxes with this program. They are advised to ship the box only when it is full, so as to reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation. The packaging need not be cleaned, but they need to ensure that the items are dry.

Once the items reach TerraCycle, they will be cleaned and melted into hard plastic, which will then be remolded into new recycled products such as park benches and picnic tables, thus building a truly circular economy.
