NWRA Responds to EPA’s PFAS Action Plan

SEATTLE (Waste 360): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its comprehensive PFAS action plan. The action plan identifies the steps the EPA is taking to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are found in a wide range of consumer products that people use daily such as cookware, pizza boxes and stain repellants.

“The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) is pleased that the EPA has released its action plan for PFAS. This issue is important to our members, and we have been following it closely. NWRA looks forward to being a part of the process as we work with the agency to develop appropriate policies that are based on science,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith in a statement.

Although the action plan does not impact landfills directly, landfills are impacted due to potential additional requirements made by downstream receptors for their leachate. In addition, regulators are increasingly requiring landfills to conduct additional monitoring for the most common PFAS compounds.
