Nucor Corporation to Build New 3 Million TPA Sheet Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Charlotte, N.C.-headquartered Nucor Corporation announced that its board of directors have given approval for construction of a new state-of-the-art sheet mill, with an estimated production capacity of three million tons. The construction of the mill, which is expected to extend up to two years, is subject to receipt of permitting and other regulatory approvals.

According to company press release, it is currently evaluating locations in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The proposed mill will serve customers in the Midwest and Northeast markets and will have considerably lower carbon footprint, compared to competitors in the region.

The mill is expected to be built at an investment of approximately $2.7 billion. It will mainly produce hot-rolled sheet products. Apart from annealing capabilities, the mill will initially have two galvanizing lines- an advanced high-end automotive line and a construction-grade line.

Leon Topalian, President & Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation noted that the Greenfield sheet mill complements the company’s operations in the region, in line with its long-established strategy for profitable growth.
