Norra Skog Announced Huge Investment at Kage Sawmill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Norra Skog announced that a large part of the company’s investment over the next few years will take place in its sawmill in Kage, north of Skelleftea. The company plans to invest roughly 300 million in the mill. The total investment will create long-term sustainability for the forest industry as well as the people employed by the sector, the company press release noted.

The investment will be divided into four stages- higher value exchange, traceability, staff spaces and new logistics. It will increase the value exchange by 3-4%, noted Joakim Larsson, sawmill manager, Norra Timber-Kage.

The plan involves construction of a new timber sorting facility, purchase of a new splitting saw and the installation of a CT log. In order to prepare for the upcoming investments, Norra Skog has already begun construction of new warehouses. This will facilitate storage of more wood under roof.

The investment promises huge technological leap, enabling it to read the log’s individual fingerprints. With the new technology, the company will be able to price the products from each log individually, which in turn will deliver more profitability to the company. In addition, the new camera technology will ensure that the products are sorted to its maximum value.
