SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Norbord Inc. announced its decision to reduce the production schedule for one of its two-line oriented strand board (OSB) mill at Cordele, Georgia. As per company press release, Line 1 at the mill will operate on a reduced 10/4 schedule with effect from September 5, 2019. The new schedule will be in place until further notice. Norbord cited ongoing poor market conditions for reducing the mill production.
The slowdown in U.S. homebuilding activity has resulted in lower-than anticipated OSB demand till date. The reduced production schedule at the mill will ensure that its production matches with the seasonally lower demand during winter months. Meantime, the company will continue to serve its customers without disruption, said the press release.
With two production lines, the Georgia mill has a total production capacity of 1,040 million square feet per annum. The reduced production schedule will impact the mill’s production capacity by nearly 12%.
