Nippon Steel's Thailand Subsidiary Honored with Highest TPM Award

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): NS-Siam United Steel Company Limited (NS-SUS) a subsidiary of Japanese Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) has been awarded the 2017 Advanced Special Award for Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Achievement. This is the first time the company has been awarded this rank of award.  The award ceremony held recently in the Kyoto International Conference Center was attended by top NS-SUS company representatives.

The TPM programme, instituted by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM), is a comprehensive maintenance program that requires participation of all company employees from the top management to production workers. The program aims to deliver maximum efficiency in production system by minimizing accidents, defects and troubles.

The company had initiated TPM activities in 2005 itself. Since then, the company has made significant progress in maintenance works by ensuring participation of all its employees’ corporate-wide. The implementation of the Toyota Production System (TPS) in 2012 has resulted in thorough reduction in losses and considerable improvement to production efficiency. Consequently, the company was able to achieve up to 80% reduction in rate of equipment failure as compared with 2005. It also resulted in 6% jump in yield.

The committed efforts of the employees have now helped the company to achieve the highest award.
