ND Paper Biron Plant Expansion Receives Major Tax Break from WEDC

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has granted tax breaks to Nine Dragons Paper on their expansion project at Biron plant in Wood County. The company will receive tax credits of more than $1.5 million over a period of three years in return for creation of nearly 30 jobs.

According to Mark R. Hogan, secretary and CEO of WEDC, the proposed investment of around $200 million in the Biron plant demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to the state and its workforce. The initiative requires significant capital investment on the part of the company, it said. WEDC is proud to provide support to the company in making the project viable, Hogan noted.

Nine Dragons Paper plans to commission several projects at the Biron plant. It includes conversion of one of the paper machines to containerboard products. It also comprises of construction of additional facilities such as two-line greenfield recycled-content pulp facility, water treatment and fiber recovery plant, package boiler, raw material storage facilities and finished goods warehouse.

It must be noted that the company is carrying out similar investment at its Rumford, Maine facility. This involves addition of a greenfield recycled-content pulp facility and installation of a shoe press on the paper machine, which will boost the machine’s production capacity by approximately one-fifth.
