Newegg Enters Electronics Recommerce Market

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Newegg Commerce Inc. is letting customers trade in and buy select used consumer electronics products.

The online technology product retailer is unveiling Newegg Refreshed, a new refurbishment program for tech and PC products. The program also enables customers to trade in unwanted PC hardware. Customers can shop Newegg Refreshed products on Newegg.com, the Newegg app and when visiting product pages with the Newegg Refreshed description.

Refurbished product categories currently available at Newegg include Apple products (iPhone, iPad and MacBook), graphics cards (GPUs), Advanced Battlestations (ABS) gaming desktop PC systems, monitors, laptops, tablets, mobile phones and robotic vacuums.

Newegg is working with refurbishing partners including ABS, Likewize, Back in the Box, CTS Warehouse Store, Focus Camera, and iRobot to repurpose products. The company and its partners professionally inspect, test, clean and refurbish products as necessary to be fully functional and backed by the Newegg Refreshed Guarantee.

This guarantee enables customers to return the Newegg Refreshed product for a refund or replacement within 90 days. The introduction of the program follows the September 2023 launch of the retailer’s graphics card trade-in initiative.

After buying a new graphics card, customers have 14 days to send in their old graphics card for credit toward a new graphics card. Traded in graphics cards are resold after inspection. This effort is now part of the Newegg Refreshed program.

According to Newegg, the program also has an environmental benefit in reducing eco-waste by keeping products in use.

“We’re focused on expanding our refreshed categories to offer our customers both great value and peace of mind when they choose like-new or refurbished products,” said Andrew Choi, director of brand marketing and web Experience. “We’re launching a program that offers customers additional ways to save, whether in the form of Newegg Refreshed products or trade-in credit, while promoting sustainability.”

Newegg follows in big footsteps

Several major retailers also offer initiatives for the trade-in and resale of refurbished consumer electronics products. Best Buy provides a nationwide program that allows consumers to recycle their old tech by mail or in-home pickup. Through the service, Best Buy refurbishes and resells items, or recycles them if they cannot be resold.

On the e-commerce side, Amazon launched its own refurbished product storefront, Amazon Renewed, in 2017; and eBay also offers an online storefront for like-new consumer electronics items called eBay Refurbished.

Headquartered in City of Industry, Calif., Newegg was founded in 2001 and serves a global customer base throughout North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East. The company offers direct sales and an online marketplace platform for PC and IT hardware, consumer electronics, automotive, gaming products and finished goods.
