New Prince Albert Lumber Mill Moves Forward

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The new lumber mill by One Sky Forest Products, whose construction is underway in Prince Albert has received a timber allocation from the Saskatchewan province. The announcement by the province will help the lumber mill to move forward.

The province did not mention the quantity of lumber that is being allocated for the mill, but said that it is allocating a major portion of the lumber required for the mill. The mill is estimated to require nearly 845,000 square metres of timber to meet its anticipated yearly production target. The company intends to procure the remaining lumber from other mills, private landowners and indigenous allocation holders.

The mill will have a production capacity of 600 million square feet of oriented stranded board (OSB). The production is expected to start during the first quarter of 2022.

Brian Fehr, Founder, One Sky Forest Products thanked the government of Saskatchewan and said that it looks forward to developing the important project for Prince Albert, First Nation partners and the people of Saskatchewan. The company is eager to move on to the next phase of project development, he added.

Forestry is sector in northern Saskatchewan supports nearly 8,000 jobs. The new mill is expected to create over 700 jobs in the region.
