New Plastic Bottles Launched with Minimum 10% PCR Content

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.K.-based Spectra Packaging has launched new plastic bottles with minimum 10% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) material, as part of its initiatives to boost environmental commitments. The PCR 10 bottles will come into effect by the end of the current year and will be provided at no additional costs to all its existing as well as new customers. All the future HDPE and PET products made at the UK converters will conform to the above standards. The recycled content could be subsequently increased up to 100%, the company press release noted.

According to Jonathan Powell, Sales Director at Spectra Packaging, customers have the choice to decline the bottles by opting out of this new initiative if they don’t wish to use packaging made out of PCR plastics. The initiative is a testimony of the ongoing environment friendly measures being adopted by the company towards offering more sustainable packaging solutions to its customers. As part of its efforts to minimize carbon footprint, the company sources PCR in the UK itself, Powell added.

In addition, the company has also provided 100% recyclable biopolymer packaging that could be used as substitute to conventional HDPE and PET. It is one among those few facilities that has imposed ban on single-use items such as disposable plastic cups. Moreover, it uses recycled products for packaging and transporting its products. In addition, the company is a member of Operation Clean Sweep-an environmental initiative endorsed by the British Plastics Federation (BPF).

In order to ensure minimized impact from operations, Spectra Packaging captures all their Post Industrial Recycled (PIR) waste, thereby preventing them from ending up in landfills. These wastes are used to make new bottles.
