New Investment to Boost Plastic Bag Recycling Capability

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hartsville, South Carolina-based Novolex announced plans to invest in North Vernon, Indiana recycling facility. The proposed investment in new water treatment system is aimed at improving the recycling capacity for plastic bags and films by more than 500,000 pounds per year.

The company collects plastic retail bags, as well as other bags and films through store drop-off points. The collected items are transported to the North Vernon recycling facility, where they are washed and processed into resin pellets, which in turn are used in manufacturing new plastic retail bags. The new water treatment system will keep the water used for processing clean, thereby ensuring the quality of recycled pellets.

Novolex noted that the investment will help to expand its processing capabilities. It requested combined efforts by consumers, businesses and government authorities in improving the collection and recycling of plastics. The company, being a manufacturer and recycler at the same time, has a very important role in the plastics circular economy, it said.

Troy Cook, plant manager at North Vernon recycling center hoped that the investment will extend Novolex’s commitment to manufacturing in Indiana, in addition to improving its recycling operations.
