Coal exports from Virginia terminals surge 24.3%year-on-year in May

As per the latest data released by the Virginia Maritime Association (VMA) , the coal exports from the three terminals of Hampton Roads port complex in Virginia has recorded increased volumes during the month of May

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster) : As per the latest data released by the Virginia Maritime Association (VMA) , the coal exports from the three terminals of Hampton Roads port complex in Virginia has recorded increased volumes during the month of May.

The total coal exports by all the three terminals totaled 4,725,087 st in May, which is 9.8% higher than the exports during the month of April this year and 24.3% higher than the exports during May 2012, as per VMA data.

The total coal exports from the Lambert's Point Coal Terminal totaled 1,740,400 st during the month of May this year. The exports from the terminal have declined by 11.6% from 1,969,169 st in April. On the other hand, the exports have improved by 9.6% from 1,588,168 st in May last year.

The total coal exports from Kinder Morgan's Pier IX terminal totaled 1,597,899 st in May. The exports from the terminal have jumped by 63.8% from 975,780 st in April and by 42.2% from 1,123,598 st in May 2012.

The DTA terminal exported 1,386,787 st of coal during May, which is 1.9% higher in comparison with the exports of 1,360,316 st in April and 27.1% higher when compared to 1,090,762 st during same month a year ago.

The cumulative combined exports by all the three terminals during the first five months period in 2013 totaled 23,098,930 st, higher by 8.6% than the 21,270,169 st exports clocked during same period the previous year.
