MetalX to Build New Scrap Metal Processing Facility in Ohio

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Waterloo, Indiana-based MetalX has announced its decision to construct a new scrap processing plant in Delta, Ohio. The company plans to invest $35 million to build the plant. The construction activities are expected to commence this fall, subject to regulatory approvals and permits. The company also expects to fund the project through state and local incentives. MetalX expects the plant to be operational in 12 months.

The facility will be developed in a phased manner. Upon completion of the initial phase, the facility will employ nearly 80 people and will have a capacity to handle 500,000 tonnes of materials per year. The final phase of the construction will lift the total number of employment opportunities to 100 and enhance the processing capability to 700,000 tonnes per year. The company intends to hire from the local area and aims to support other businesses in the area, thereby bringing about development of the entire community.

The company press release noted that the plant will be located close to the flat-rolled steel mill facility of North Star Bluescope. The construction of the plant is expected to further strengthen the outstanding relationship with the steel maker. MetalX President and CEO Danny Rifkin noted that the plant offers logistics benefits due to its close proximity with the steel mill. The establishment of the plant will benefit both the parties, he added. The proposed plant will have state-of-the-art equipment to meet the high industrial demand from the region. MetalX intends to become the leader in the highly competitive regional marketplace.

The new scrap processing facility will deal with ferrous as well as non-ferrous scrap. It will accept scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers and the general public and process them to be used as raw material for remelting purposes. MetalX will install latest machinery at the plant to equip it to handle high volumes of scrap in the most efficient manner. In addition, it will also offer full-service transportation network to guarantee on-time service to its industrial and commercial clients.

MetalX had recently acquired M&K Metal Processors in Delta, Ohio, by reopening the yard which had remained closed for a long time. The company confirmed that this 10-acre facility will remain open even after the opening of the new scrap processing facility. Upon opening of the new facility, the M&K yard will serve commercial customers and will be used to promote community recycling. Until that time, it will continue to serve industrial and commercial clients in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan.
