US import of brass mill products saw quarterly dip, says CBFC report

NEW YORK (Scrap Monster) : According to statistics released by the Copper & Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC) Tuesday, the imports of brass mill products by US during the first quarter of the year have registered a fall year-on-year.

The total imports of brass mill products by US during the first quarter 2013 totaled 112.5 million lb, which is 5.9% lower than the total imports of 119.5 million lb during same quarter the previous year.

The total imports during the month of March alone fell by 3.6% year-on-year. The imports during March amounted to 41.9 million lb compared to 43.5 billion lb imported during March 2012.Germany was the leading exporter of brass mill products to the US totaling 8.9 million lb, followed by South Korea with 7.5 million lb, Mexico with 3.7 million lb, China with 3.4 million lb and Canada with 3.2 million lb.

The total imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products during March amounted to 11.9 million lb. The imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 14.7 million lb. The imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 12.3 million lb. Imports of copper alloy wire totaled nearly 3 million lb.

On the other hand, the exports of US brass mill products surged during March and the quarter ending March. Exports totaled 21.6 million lb in March, up from 21.2 million lb in March 2012, a 1.8% increase. Exports through March totaled 61.8 million lb compared with 59.4 million lb for the same year-ago period, a 4.1% increase, according to the CBFC.

Mexico was the main importer of US brass mill products in March with imports totaling 6.7 million lb, followed by Canada at 6.2 million lb, Saudi Arabia at 2.2 million lb, South Korea at about 1.3 million lb, and China at 990,857 lb.

The total exports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products during March amounted to 8.7 million lb. The exports of all pipe and tube products totaled 6.1 million lb. The exports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 4.3 million lb. Exports of copper alloy wire totaled nearly 2.5 million lb.
