The scrap imports by Turkey during the month of April this year has shown a jump of 21.5% in comparison to the previous month
ANKARA (Scrap Monster) : The scrap imports by Turkey during the month of April this year has shown a jump of 21.5% in comparison to the previous month, shows the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
The total scrap imports by the country during April were 1.9 million mt, which is the highest since October 2012. The imports have surged 21.5% from the previous month. However, the imports are lower by 8.75% when compared to the imports during same month the previous year.
The net value of scrap imports by Turkey during April amounted to $747 million. The import value has increased by 20.9% month-on-month. However in comparison with April 2012, the import value has shown a decline of 18.7%. The average April scrap import prices by the country were $397 per mt. The average prices have decline by $2 per mt from the previous month and by $ 48 from the prices during April 2012.
The country’s imports from EU jumped 57% month-on-month to reach 1 million mt. On the other hand, the imports from North America and the CIS region weakened during April. The total scrap imports from North America were 582,345 mt, 9% lesser when compared to the previous month. Also the scrap imports from CIS region totaled 168,334 mt, slightly lower when compared to previous month imports.
The cumulative imports during the initial four months of the year by Turkey totaled 6.2 million mt, which is 15.9% lower than the scrap imports during same period the previous year. The net import value during the period Jan to Apr has dropped down by 25.1% to $2.5 billion year-on-year.
