Pakistan Scrap imports rises 43.6% in September: PFBS

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 144,185 mt in September this year, decreasing 1.81 percent compared to August and up 43.6 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS).

ISLAMABAD (Scrap Monster): Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 144,185 mt in September this year, decreasing 1.81 percent compared to August and up 43.6 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS).

The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $50 million in September, falling 9.33 percent compared to August this year and up 36.8 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July-September 2012 period amounted to 443,563 mt, increasing 12.07 percent compared to the same period one year earlier. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $166.55 million, rising 23.3 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in September amounted to 136,550 mt, decreasing by 7.6 percent on year-on-year basis and up 10.7 percent compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July-September 2012 period totaled 361,775 mt, decreasing by 13.4 percent year on year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel imports was $319 million, falling 3.83 percent year on year.
