Japanese scrap exports fall 17.5% in January

TOKYO (Scrap Monster) : The data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance denotes the monthly scrap export for the month of January has declined 17.5% month-on-month.
The total ferrous scrap exports during the month of January decreased to 735,949 tons compared with December 2012.However, the exports rose by 31.6% compared to the same month the previous year.
Japan exported the largest quantity of scrap to Korea during January 2013. The net exports touched 444,930 tons , which is 24.9% higher than the exports during January 2012.
China was the second largest importer of Japanese scrap. The exports during January 2013 increased by 31.2% compared to that during the same month last year to touch 238,322 tons.
The country had witnessed strong export volumes in 2012. In 2012, Japanese scrap exports soared by 58%. The figures for the first month of the New Year don’t look encouraging though.
A weaker Yen has also helped the exports from Japan more price competitive in overseas markets. Apparently, the export of electronic products, iron, steel products and auto parts too has significantly increased.
