A dime made in 1873 has sold for nearly $2 million at an auction in the United States. The unique coin was minted during a one-day run of dimes.

PHILADELPHIA (Scrap Monster): A dime made in 1873 has sold for nearly $2 million at an auction in the United States. The unique coin was minted during a one-day run of dimes.
The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper reports the anonymous winning bidder paid $1.6 million, plus a 15 per cent buyer's fee. The 1873-CC "No Arrows" Liberty Seated dime was auctioned during a convention of the American Numismatic Association.
It's part of the Battle Born Collection, which contained one of every coin minted in Carson City, Nevada, before the facility closed in 1893. All 111 pieces were parceled off Thursday night, fetching a total of nearly $10 million.
The dime is a ten cent coin, one tenth of a United States dollar, labeled formally as "one dime". The denomination was first authorized by the Coinage Act of 1792. The dime is the smallest in diameter and is the thinnest of all U.S. coins currently minted for circulation.
