Maxion Announces Construction of All-New Aluminum Wheel Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Maxion Wheels- one of the world’s leading vehicle wheel manufacturers, has announced construction of an all-new aluminum wheel plant in India. This is the company’s first wholly-owned business unit in India. Official groundbreaking ceremony was held February 19th at the proposed project site in Ked City, Pune in the state of Maharashtra, which was attended by top company executives, customers, suppliers and other distinguished guests.

The plant will be brought into full operations in two phases. In the first phase, the company plans to build a capacity that will help to meet the market requirements until 2022. Maxion Wheels has already committed investments of nearly $50 million towards the first phase of the project, under which the plant is expected to achieve a production capacity of up to 2 million low pressure die cast aluminum wheels per annum. The construction works on first phase is expected to commence soon, whereas production from the plant is expected to commence latest by third quarter next year.

The initial phase will occupy approximately 25,000 square metres out of the total site area of 85,000 square metres. The rest of the site area is intended for future expansion works, which will be carried out in the second phase of development. The company hopes to double the manufacturing capacity to up to 4 million units per year after five years of operation.

The plant is expected to create nearly 500 direct jobs and around 500 additional supporting jobs in the region.

Peter Klinkers, CEO, Maxion Wheels stated that the company is the first global light vehicle aluminum wheel producer to own a facility in India. The company will operate in the country under a new legal entity, Maxion Wheels Aluminum India Private Limited. Maxion is proud to announce this significant investment in the world’s fastest growing economy, Klinkers added.

It must be noted that the company had imported around 300,000 aluminum wheels last year from its European facilities to be supplied to Indian customers.
