Industrial Gold Output in Mali to Record Slump in 2020

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The country’s Mines and Petroleum Ministry, in a statement released Wednesday, said that the industrial gold production in Mali is expected to report notable decline during the current year. This is mainly on account of reduced output from several mines in the country.

The industrial gold production by the country is expected to total 59.77 tonnes in 2020, down by almost 8.3% when matched with the previous year output. The total gold production is estimated at around 65.7 tonnes, with artisanal or small-scale mining contributing almost 6 tonnes. It must be noted that the artisanal gold mine output had totalled 71.1 tonnes a year ago.

According to Mines Ministry official Mamadou Sidibé, Anglogold Ashanti’s Sadiola mine output is likely to slump to 832 kg compared with 4.6 tonnes last year. The reserves at the mine have already reached depletion phase. The output from Barrick Gold’s Morila mine is expected to drop from 3.5 tonnes in 2019 to 1.9 tonnes in 2020. The Ministry expects the output from Resolute’s Finkolo gold mine to drop from 6.6 tonnes a year before to 440 kg in 2020.

On the other hand, the output from Resolute’s Somisy, and B2Gold’s Fekola mines are expected to report increased gold production.
