County Launches ‘Make Your Metals Matter’ Campaign to Boost Metal Recycling

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Staffordshire ‘Make Your Metals Matter’ campaign aims to boost recycling of metals in homes. The campaign has urged residents to recycle all the metal packaging commonly found in and around houses, including cans, foil trays, aerosols and aluminium foils.

According to estimates, Staffordshire uses nearly 400 million cans, foil trays and aerosols every year. The proper collection and recycling of all the metal packaging used by houses in Staffordshire could result in savings of approximately 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, thereby resulting in significant environmental protection.

Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth at Staffordshire County Council noted that the latest campaign is a big encouragement for the people in Staffordshire, who are already committed to recycling and reducing waste. As part of the campaign, leaflets would be sent to nearly 60,000 homes. Also, the campaign will carry out online and social media campaigns highlighting the benefits of recycling.

The campaign has already delivered significant boost to metal recycling volumes in other parts of the UK. Since 2012, it has run in over 100 local authority areas, covering more than 6 million households.
