Lumber Yard Totally Destroyed by Fire in Millsboro

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The main retail building of Millsboro Lumber and Hardware on Ark Avenue, Millsboro, Washington County was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon. No injuries have been reported. However, the store building is considered a total loss, said Fire Department officials. The fire is expected to have caused losses of approximately $1 million, sources said.

According to fire department, the fire could have started as early as Friday. A worker discovered embers in the building’s eaves and spotted smoke filling the furnace room. The staff immediately called the fire department at about 2 PM. While firefighters entered the main building a ceiling tile fell. However, firefighters attacked the fire from outside. Later the steel roof fell in, thereby making the job tough for firefighters, as they could not penetrate the layer of steel with water from above.

Four hours of relentless efforts by firefighters helped to contain the flames and helped to prevent the fire spreading to adjacent buildings where wood and other materials were stored. They remained at the site for extended hours, dousing hot spots on all four sides of the main building. The state fire marshall has been asked to investigate the incident, on account of the heavy inventory loss caused by the fire.
