Li-Cycle Announced New European Battery Recycling Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Li-Cycle Holdings Corp.- the leading lithium-ion battery recycler in North America announced construction of a new lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Europe, thus making it Li-Cycle’s first recycling facility outside of North America. The facility is expected to become operational in early-2023.

The strategic partners are now currently finalizing the site for the Spoke facility. The construction activities are subject to receipt of necessary Norwegian regulatory approvals. The proposed facility will have capacity to process up to 10,000 tonnes of manufacturing scrap and end-of-life batteries per annum.

According to company press release, it has entered into a joint venture partnership with strategic partners ECOSTAR AS and Morrow Batteries AS to construct a new commercial li-ion battery recycling facility in southern Norway. Li-Cycle will be the majority owner of the joint venture, whereas ECOSTAR and Morrow will serve as minority owners.

As per the deal, ECO STAR will provide end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. Also, Morrow will provide lithium-ion battery manufacturing scrap from its planned battery manufacturing facilities in the country. Meantime, Li-Cycle will provide equipment, technology, technical services, and operational management for the facility.
