Lexmark Declared the Winner of 2020 ISRI Design for Recycling Award

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) Lexmark as the winner of 2020 Design for Recycling (DFR) award. The company won the prestigious award for its design of toner cartridges, 95% of which are said to contain at least some postconsumer recycled (PCR) plastic content. 

Lexmark Chief Sustainability Officer John Gagel accepted the award during ISRI’s Virtual 2020 Awards Ceremony held October 21st, 2020. The award validates the company’s commitment to using materials derived from sustainable sources that are designed to have minimal impact on the environment, he said.

Robin Wiener, President, ISRI noted that the Institute is proud to recognize Lexmark as the 2020 award recipient and that it looks forward to their continued work to design with recycling in mind. Lexmark has been instrumental in incorporating the design for recycling principles in all stages of development of its toner cartridges, Wiener added.

Lexmark had initiated plans for PCR content in the plastics in its cartridges in 2008. During that year, it had achieved an average 21% PCR content, which was later on increased to current levels of 95%.

The annual award is ISRI’s highest honor and is given away to most innovative contribution to products designed with recycling in mind.
