Construction of West Africa's Largest Steel Plant Done

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sethi Brothers Incorporated announced that it has completed construction of a modern steel plant in District #12, Gardnersville, Montserrado County, Liberia. The plant is considered as the largest steel plant in West Africa.

The construction of the plant began in 2018, as part of efforts by the Government of Liberia to boost the country’s industrial sector. The plant was constructed at a cost of $22 million.

The plant is expected to provide employment opportunities to over 1,000 people including residents of District #12. The plant will manufacture a variety of steel products including squared pipes, steel round pipes, reinforcement steel bars and angle steels, which will serve the entire West African region, in addition to serving local markets. It will make use of the locally available scrap materials as raw materials for steel production.

The environment-friendly steel plant comprises of a giant smokeless power plant that runs of HFO fuel, capable of generating power for the factory. It also provides other facilities such as safe drinking water and first-class public toilets. The 1.4 kilometre road from the main Somalia Drive corridor to the company’s facilities will further benefit the host community.

Paul Sethi, CEO, Sethi Brothers Incorporated stated that the mass steel production from the plant will not only help to bring down the commodity prices in local market, but also play a key role in boosting the Liberian economy. He urged the government to ensure that scrap materials are reserved for the company by making sure that no scrap leaves the country as raw materials.

 Meantime, District #12 Rep., Dr. George Samah lauded the company for the huge investment.
