SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Finland-based Junnikkala announced plans to construct a new modern sawmill facility in Oulu- the capital city of Northern Finland.
The new sawmill facility will be built at an investment of 70 million euro, which is the biggest in the company’s history. The construction is expected to begin next year, with completion scheduled for end-2023. This will be Junnikkala’s third sawmill in Northern Finland, after the ones at Kalajoki and Oulainen.

The investment decision was primarily on account of rising demand for high-quality and sustainable timber products from global construction industry as well as the overall positive development of the worldwide sawmill industry. The investment, which utilises state-of-the-art sawmill technology, will set the foundation for future investments for the company, said the press release.
The new sawmill will have a production capacity of 300,000 cubic metres per year, thus boosting Junnikkala’s total production to nearly 650,000 cubic metres. Almost 90% of the production from the new sawmill will be exported to countries across the world, through the Port of Oulu.
The new sawmill will support the company’s sustainable growth strategy, said Kalle Junnikkala, CEO, Junnikkala.
