ISRI Starts Accepting Nominations for 2021 Design for Recycling Award

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) invited nominations for the 2021 Design for Recycling (DFR) Award. It is ISRI’s highest award given annually to outstanding contributions to products designed with recycling in mind.

In order to be become eligible for selection, the submitted product must be designed/redesigned and manufactured by using maximum amount of recyclable materials. Also, they must be easily recyclable using the currently available and future recycling techniques.

The cost of recycling of the product must not exceed the value of its recycled materials. In addition, the products must reduce the use of raw materials by including maximum amount of recycled materials and components. Moreover, they must be free of hard-to-recycle hazardous materials and other materials that hinder recycling process.

The 2020 DFR award winner was Lexmark for its design of toner cartridges, 95% of which are said to contain at least some postconsumer recycled (PCR) plastic content. The previous winners of the prestigious award include HP, Coca-Cola, Dell, LG, Nestle Waters North America among others.

The deadline for submission of online applications is Feb 19, 2021. The participants will be notified about the status of their application latest by March 22, 2021, ISRI said.
