ISRI Publishes The Harris Poll Recycling Survey Results

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), in partnership with The Harris Poll conducted an online study among more than 2,000 Americans during mid-September this year. The study, aimed at analyzing the role of brands and governments in driving recycling rates, provides deep insights into attitudes and recycling trends in practice among U.S. consumers.

Nearly 81% of Americans preferred manufacturers or retailers display a ‘Recycling Guide’ label on products. The label should have clear description of the parts of the product that could be recycled and how to recycle them. Such information will help Americans choose the best recyclable product when making the purchase or encourage recycling of product parts at the time of their disposal.

The survey shows that Americans in the age group between 18 and 34 give utmost consideration to the products packaging, when compared with older Americans. Almost 17% of younger Americans are concerned about the recyclability of packaging, whereas 16% show interest in finding what the package is made of. Also 16% make efforts to ensure that the package is made from recycled materials.

The poll participants call upon the government to set an example by prioritizing recyclable materials. 80% of the Americans believe that governments should prioritize recyclables products when making purchasing decisions.
