SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Interfor has announced publication of its 2018 Corporate Sustainability Report. The report highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability in its various manufacturing operations.

The employees’ commitment to embracing world-leading safety and environmental standards has yielded the best-ever medical incident rate of 1.9 in 2018, significantly lower when compared to 2.2 in 2017. Three divisions of the company- Grand Forks, Cedarprime and Perry Reman recorded no safety incident during the year.

In B.C, the company planted approximately 9.8 million seedlings during the previous year. This equates to almost three for every tree harvested by Interfor in 2018. It provided Environmental Management System and SFI program training to more than 800 logging contractors in BC. The company’s modernization project won the FortisBC’s 2018 Efficiency in Action Award in the Industrial Customer category.

The capital investments during 2018 totaled more than $139 million. The $65 million strategic capital projects at Monticello, AR and Meldrim, GA sawmills are on track to be finished by Q2-2019. The second phase of the Capital Investment Strategy covers projects totaling US$240 million at Thomaston, GA; Eatonton, GA and Georgetown, SC sawmills, which are expected to be completed in various phases during 2019 to 2021.

In 2018, more than 170 community-based organizations across North America received a total of $390,000 of in-kind and/or financial support, the 2018 Corporate Sustainability Report said.
