SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): InstaCash- the platform that accepts old or used mobile phones for cash has announced the launch of India’s first mobile e-waste kiosk in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The project is run in collaboration with Pollution Control Board (PCB) and was launched as part of World Environment Day celebrations on 5th June.
The three-day campaign placed mobile e-waste kiosks across petrol pumps in the city of Jaipur. According to InstaCash press release, a total of 1,970 old/used mobile phones along with chargers and batteries were collected during this period. The success of the pilot has encouraged the company to install similar kiosks in other major cities across the country including Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Surat.
Prateek Goel , Founder, InstaCash warned that mobile phones are the most dangerous category of e-waste, as they contain high levels of toxic chemicals including lead, mercury and cadmium.
