Indian Firm Hit Major E-Waste Recycling Milestone

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mumbai, India-based Eco Recycling Ltd (Ecorec) has achieved significant milestone in e-waste recycling, with the help of its Book My Junk app, launched in early-2019.

During the testing phase, the company collected e-waste from over 800 homes and other locations. The operations returned to full swing, following a brief spell of sluggishness on account of Covid-19 pandemic. As of now, the company has installed nearly 100 eco bins in various locations across the state including Mumbai and Thane, where e-waste could be dumped in an environment-friendly manner.

The app allows users to log into the app and enter details such as location address. The company will then send a box by courier, where users could drop small electronic items such as mobile phone, laptop charger, laptops, cables, batteries, mouse etc. The users can notify through the app, as and when the box is full. The company then arranges for door pickup of the e-waste box.

The collected e-waste is dismantled and processed at the company’s Mumbai facility. The facility shreds the items and segregate plastic, glass, metals and hazardous materials using latest technology.
