HS Timber Group to Construct Modern Sawmill in Belarus

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): HS Timber Group announced its decision to construct a new sawmill in Belarus.

The modern facility, at an investment of Euro 84 million, will be built in land plot No.12 of the free economic zone (FEZ) Grodnoinvest in Svisloch District of the country. The company has already obtained building permit after a long wait. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 18th December, 2020. The construction of the plant is expected to be completed in spring 2022.

According to the company, the proposed sawmill facility is expected to complement the group’s existing production facilities in Germany and Romania. Its proximity to the Polish port of Gdansk offers significant logistics capabilities. HS Timber will also benefit economically from the advantages of the free economic zone. The plant is expected to boost the company’s annual sawing capacity by nearly 10%.

The sawmill will create nearly 230 jobs. It is expected to contribute positively to the region’s as well as the nation’s economy. The successful implementation of the project is expected to bring in more investments, including several logistics projects, said Aleksandr Versotsky, Chairman of the Svisloch District Executive Committee.
