Ghana’s Gold Output in 2020 to Surpass Previous Year Level

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The African country of Ghana expects yearly gold production to surpass the prior year levels. The country’s gold output is expected to surpass 4 million ounces in 2020.

According to Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, the mining sector in the country remained resilient, amid challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic. The investments in exploration, technology and human resources remained unaffected. The sector continued to remain as a key contributor to the Ghanaian economy, by way of its outstanding achievements, he said while speaking at the sixth edition of the Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA) organized by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

The restarting of operations at the AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi mine is a positive sign, the Minister said. It must be noted that the mine production activities were not suspended even during the peak of the pandemic. The mining companies demonstrated effective management of workplaces, safeguarding the health and safety of workers as well as host communities. Further, he said that the government is confident of the industry maintaining its growth trajectory.

Meantime, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine received the 2019 Mining Company of the Year award.
