SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Georgia Pacific (GP) announced completion of its newest lumber production facility in Talladega, Alabama. The company declared official start of production at the $100 million facility, which took nearly 9 months to complete. The facility employs around 130 full-time employees. The dedication ceremony held on the facility’s grounds was attended by distinguished guests including the Honorable Governor Kay Ivey, Georgia-Pacific President and CEO Christian Fischer and the city of Talladega Mayor Jerry Cooper.
Fischer noted that the Talladega investment highlights the company’s focus on providing long-term value to its customers, communities and employees. Further, he thanked Governor Ivey, Mayor Cooper and all community friends and neighbors for their unconditional support. The company currently offers employment to 2,300 people across the new Talladega facility along with the other seven facilities in the state. GP has made an investment of nearly $1.2 billion in the state over the past five years, Fischer added.
As per current plans, the facility is expected to produce approximately 230 million board feet of lumber per year. The production will be expanded to 300 million board feet per year in the near future.
