SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Foundation for Plastic Recycling (FPR) announced launch of a new initiative, aimed at stimulating the market demand for recycled plastics.
The newly launched ‘Buy Recycled’ campaign targets to educate consumers about the immense benefits of plastic recycling and encourage them to purchase products manufactured with postconsumer resin (PCR). A rethinking on the buying preferences by consumers will boost the market demand for products with recycled content. Furthermore, it will lead to environmental savings and support additional U.S. jobs, said the news release.
The ‘Buy Recycled’ website offers vast collection of educational materials and resources. It also provides links to other initiatives being launched by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR).
According to Steve Alexander, president and CEO of the APR, recycling helps the planet and empowers its communities. However, many citizens are unaware about the plight of recyclables after they are disposed of in the bins. Even fewer realize the need for purchasing recycled products in order to complete the circle of recycling. The new initiative seeks to change this, he said.
Meantime, Lisa Lopinsky, executive director of the FPR urged buyers to pledge to purchase a recycled item or two every time they shop.
