FPAC Declares Launch of New 'Forestry for the Future' Campaign

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) has announced launch of a new campaign titled ‘Forestry for the Future’. The campaign aims to highlight major issued faced by Canada’s forestry sector workers and thier communities in front of the federal election candidates.

Derek Nighbor, president and CEO, FPAC stated that the future of Canadian forestry sector faces several unprecedented challenges. These include fire attacks, pest infestations, market voltility and heightening trade disputes among others. These have not only limited the ability in using forestry management as a tool to fight climate change, but also have resulted in thousands of job losses.

As part of the campaign, FPAC has launched a website www.forestryforthefuture.ca to record the various challenges and opportunities faced by the sector. The forestry workers and other stakeholders could share related information on the site, for which the candidates could suggest potential solutions to tackle the issues.

FPAC called for more adaptive management of Canada’s forests. It urged prospective MPs to join hands in developing a more inclusive and comprehensive forest policy that safegurds the future health of Canada’s forests and forestry communities. The sector offers huge economic opportunities for thousands of Canadians, FPAC noted.

As per estimates, the Canadian forestry sector operates in over 600 communities and provides over 230 direct job opportunities across the country.
