SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Marcal Paper mill in Elmwood Park, northern New Jersey is all set to reopen. The plant had suffered severe damage in a huge fire that hit the facility earlier last year.

According to Rob Baron, president and chief executive officer of Marcal Paper, the paper plant will be back in business next month. However, he did not mention a specific date for opening of the facility. The company plans to hire back nearly 100 workers, as the plant resumes operations. Additional team members will be hired during the course of the year as the business progresses, he added. It must be noted that the plant had employed around 500 workers at the time of the multiple-alarm fire.

The massive fire, which occurred on Jan 30, 2019 5 PM, had destroyed 21 paper-converting lines at the facility. The paper roll stock in the warehouse was fully engulfed in flames. The fire had spread rapidly to propane tanks and other combustibles, destroying 30 out of the 36 buildings.

The Marcal Paper Mill has long been working with Pennsylvania-based Nittany Paper to bring the facility back to operation.
