FCC Environmental Services Awarded the Solid Waste Collection Contract in Omaha, NE

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The Omaha City Council in the state of Nebraska has awarded FCC Environmental Services, the American affiliate of FCC group, the contract for solid waste collection services of the city, for the next ten years, with a possible extension of another ten years. FCC will also provide the seasonal selective collection of yard waste for 12 weeks per year. The total volume awarded is of $255 million, which, together with the possible extension, could reach $560 million.

With a population of 466.000 people, the city of Omaha is the largest in the state of Nebraska and one of the most important cities in the Midwest. FCC will provide the service with a fleet of 69 trucks powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), with the significant benefits of reducing environmental impact and carbon footprint in the city. In addition to its significant volume, the contract has a strategic importance for FCC, as it will serve as a development hub for its future expansion in the Midwest.

With this, there are already 17 contracts awarded to FCC Environmental Services in the United States, where Palm Beach contract, amounting to $215 million, and Volusia County contract, for $87 million, were recently awarded this year, both in Florida. With this award the total contracting of FCC in the United States, including extensions, already reaches the figure of $1.9 billion.

In the last few months, the environmental services area of the FCC Group has received important awards in the international arena. In the United Kingdom, FCC Environment recently signed an agreement with the Danish fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to develop one of Europe’s largest waste recovery facilities in Lostock, with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year. A few months ago the Houston (Texas) Material Recycling Facility (MRF), at the USA, started full operations. This plant will sort and re-valuate the city’s recyclable materials and will manage their subsequent sale, for a period of up to 20 years. The facility, with a throughput of up to 145,000 tons per year, has been designed, financed and built by FCC, and joins the new recycling plant in Dallas (Texas), which operates at full capacity and has been selected by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) as the Best Recycling Facility in North America.
