Fast Food Giant Commited to Reduce Plastic Use in Toys

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): McDonald’s plans to make children’s toys offered with Happy Meals more environment-friendly over the next four years. The fast food company has decided to make these toys more sustainable by 2025. The iconic Happy Meals toys have been the favourite of children for several years now.

The company’s decision is part of its strategy to minimize environmental harm caused by its packaging and other products. It must be noted that the company had shifted to more sustainable toys in the UK, Ireland and France in 2018. The move has resulted in 30% cut in usage of virgin fossil fuel based plastic since then. It now aims to spread the initiative to around 100 other countries where it operates.

The transition to more renewable, recycled and certified materials will result in nearly 90% reduction in virgin fossil fuel-based plastic usage, compared with 2018 baseline.

Commenting on the development, Jenny McCollochm Chief Sustainability Officer, McDonald’s stated that the company is committed to explore all possible ways that lead to environmental protection for future generations.
