Europe Crude Steel Output Rebounded Sharply in November

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly crude steel production data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) suggests notable jump in steel output by the EU-28 countries during November this year. The regional production edged higher by 5.5% over the previous year to total 12.809 million tonnes (Mt).

Germany, the largest producer in the region, recorded 14.8% jump in output over the previous year. The country’s output totalled 3.376 Mt, accounting for almost 26% of the total regional monthly output. The Italian output too was up by 3.2% year-on-year from 1.986 Mt to 2.049 Mt in November ‘20. The other key producers during the month were France (1.149 Mt), Spain (1.133 Mt) and the UK (702,000 tonnes).

The steel production by Finland increased the most, surging higher by 30.4% over the year. On the other hand, largest production decline was reported by Hungary, whose production tumbled by nearly 32% in comparison with the previous year.

Meantime, the combined steel output by EU-28 countries during the first eleven months of the current year was down significantly by 14.6%. The Jan-November ‘20 production totalled 125.159 Mt, as compared with the production of 146.538 Mt during the corresponding eleven-month period in 2019. The top five producers during this period were Germany (32.521 Mt), Italy (18.702 Mt), France (10.441 Mt), Spain (10.043 Mt) and Poland (7.209 Mt).

The pace of European steel production growth remained subdued as compared with the global year-on-year growth rate of 6.6%.
