SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Seattle, Washington-based e-Stewards has announced the launch of new, revised version of the e-recycling certification standard. The new version 4.0 is the result of eight months of hard work by a subcommittee of the Technical Committee under the Basel Action Network (BAN).
The draft of the new version of the certification standard will undergo two comment periods. A 30-day comment period for certified processors will commence on Oct 21, 2019. This will be followed by a three-week open comment period for general public in January next year to provide their comments. BAN plans to release the final version of the standard by February 2020.

The draft incorporates a requirement for separate certification to ISO14001:2015 standard and a separate data security certification. Further, it incorporates new Basel Convention trade rules. The draft recommends assessment of e-recyclers’ performance via random unannounced inspections and GPS tracking systems. The requirements of the new version are more user-friendly. Moreover, it will be publicly available, free of cost.
Salomé Stähli, e-Stewards Program Manager stated that e-Stewards is proud to offer a business-friendly standard for the electronics recycling industry. It offers highest levels of data security, international legal conformity and unparalleled performance verification, Stähli added.
