SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Indianapolis-based RecycleForce announced major expansion plans. The organization aims to double its square-foot space, which in turn will boost its recycling capacity, in addition to generating new employment opportunities. It must be noted that the organization is known for providing employment to formerly incarcerated individuals.
RecycleForce plans to relocate to a new 102,000 square feet from its current 55,000-square-foot space in Indianapolis. It will own the land and build the facility. The new site had earlier housed a RCA television factory, which had closed its operations in 2015.

The proposed expansion will almost triple its processing capacity, noted Gregg Keesling, president of RecycleForce. It currently processes about 10 million pounds of electronics per year. The new facility, upon reaching full operation, is expected to process roughly 30 million pounds.
In addition, the capacity expansion will see increased number of incarcerated individuals served by it. Currently, RecycleForce serves about 300 people per year. The expansion will raise this number to around 600.
The organization is yet to break grounds on the project. The construction activities are estimated to extend to up to 13 months. It also already secured funding assistance of $13 million as part of New Markets Tax Credit Program.
