SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Ever Green Recycling Institute (EGRI) with support of the Environmental Impact Solution Incorporated (EISI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched a new campaign against rising plastic waste pollution in Liberia.
The campaign, recently launched in Paynesville City, aims to spread awareness on a step-by-step business approach in tackling plastic waste. The program targets a plastics-free society. At the same time, it promises to create huge job opportunities for the less-privileged Liberian nationals. It must be noted that EGRI has collected tons of plastic waste for processing, since the launch of the campaign.
The shortage of safe drinking water in the country has resulted in establishment of several water companies, who provide water to residents in plastic sachets. The country lacks proper system to handle these plastic sachets, which are often discarded after use. In addition, the consumption of lightweight plastics as carry bags for retail purchases has recorded tremendous surge in the country. These bags pose the threat of environmental pollution, when not discarded properly.
EGRI intends to collect and recycle waste plastic in order to transform them into useful finished products.
