PALO ALTO (Scrap Monster): AGRION, a global business community focused on energy and sustainability, featured a panel discussion on  "E-Cycling Dollars & Sense: Handling E-Waste Profitably", joined by leaders in recycling wastes like John Shegerian, Chairman and CEO Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), and Randall Scheps, Director, Consumer Electronics for Alcoa.

The panel discussion focused on problems and promises of e-waste. The conversation covered issues ranging from how companies can profit from recycling unwanted consumer electronics, to responsible recycling. Also, the contribution of regional and national regulations and watch dog groups were also noted.

The promise of urban mining for metals, plastics, glass, rare earth metals and magnets in the ever increasing levels of rejected consumer electronics was also discussed at the event.

Shegerian and Scheps were joined on the panel by Chris Boik, Director, Recycling and Integration for Best Buy; Creighton Charles Bildstein, Co-Founder and Co-Owner, Associated Tele-Networking, Inc. (ATNI); and Sheila Davis, Executive Director Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition.

With offices in New York, San Francisco, Frankfurt, Paris, and Beijing, AGRION connects thought-leaders and executives, within and across borders, for the purposes of business development, education, idea-sharing, and networking. AGRION currently has over 140 member companies spanning a wide spectrum of industries and sectors.

Now the largest recycler of electronic waste in the world, Electronic Recyclers International processes more than 140 million pounds of electronic waste annually.
