DS Smith Survey Says Majority Europeans Are Willing to Pay Premium for Reduced Plastic Packaging

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A recent survey conducted by DS Smith says that European consumers are willing to pay more for reduced plastic packaging.

According to the DS Smith-commissioned survey, nearly 91.5% of the respondents expressed their preference to packaging with 85% less plastic, when offered a choice between reduced plastic packaging and alternative packaging option. 62% of European consumers expressed their willingness to pay up to 12.5% premium for reduced plastic packaging. Also, 59% noted that their sorting and recycling habits have undergone notable improvement over the past five year period.

Nearly 86% of the survey participants said that environmental issues, including those caused by packaging, are a major concern facing today’s society. Out of them, nearly 70% are highly concerned about plastic packaging. Meantime, packaging cartons were the packaging option that Europeans were least concerned about.

The survey results are based on nearly 3,400 responses obtained during July this year from four countries-Germany, Belgium, Poland and the UK.
