Domtar Reported Notable Progress Towards 2020 Goals

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar Corporation released its 2019 Sustainability Report which highlights efforts undertaken by the company together with various stakeholders towards delivering a better future. The report focuses on three key areas- Responsibility, Efficiency and Engagement.

According to the report, the company reported significant progress towards its 2020 goals. It reported 19% reduction in waste to landfill from its pulp and paper mills since 2013. Nearly 72% of the energy used in its mills came from renewable biomass fuels. Also, 38% of the fiber procured for its pulp and paper mills was certified, including 21% from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified sources.

Domtar achieved 15% reduction in green house gas emissions at its mills since 2010. Also, it recorded 2% reduction in water use at pulp and paper mills since 2014, said the report. Furthermore, it completed development of full-cost-of-water model, which it now uses in project approvals, as part of efforts to further support water and energy conservation efforts.

The 2019 Sustainability Report also states that recordable safety incident rate reduced by 57% since 2008 to 0.74.

The company invested $2.5 million in communities to promote literacy, health and wellness, and sustainability drives. Also, Domtar employees contributed 13,800+ hours at the company-sponsored events in various communities.

John D. Williams, president and CEO, Domtar noted that caring about environment, communities and people will help the company better meet its business objectives and deliver returns for the long term.
