Dell's Outstanding Recycling Efforts Earns ISRI 2018 DFR Award

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has announced Dell Inc. as the winner of the prestigious 2018 Design for Recycling (DFR) Award. The company won the honor for designing and developing two innovative products with superior recyclability support - Latitude 5590 laptop and 5285 2-in-1. Incidentally, ISRI’s DFR Award recognizes companies for their outstanding contribution in designing state-of-the-art products with recycling in mind.

Dell Inc. has now become the only company to have received the award two times. Earlier in 2014, it had won the award for incorporating high levels of recyclability into its products- the Latitude 10 and XPS 10 tablets and Latitude E7240 laptop.

According to ISRI, all of Dell’s Latitude notebooks are designed in such a way that they are more than 97% recyclable. The Latitude 5590 laptop is loaded with additional features that enhance its recyclability features. It consists of a removable battery and is free of harmful substances like mercury. The modular design makes it easier to access and disassemble. Furthermore, it eliminates the use of glues and adhesives. The Latitude 5285 2-in-1 convertible notebook makes use of recycled gold from used electronics products in its motherboard. Dell is the first PC manufacturer to do so, ISRI noted.

Darrel Ward, senior vice president of the Commercial Client Business Unit at Dell said that the company is honored to have received the 2018 DFR Award. The award validates the extensive innovation efforts and thoughtfulness that is put into the design and development of each and every product. Since 2008, the company has used more than 50 million pounds of recycled materials into manufacture of new products.

The award was presented during the 2018 ISRI Convention & Exposition held in Las Vegas from April 14th to 19th.

The winner of the 2017 Design for Recycling Award was Arlington, Texas-based EcoStrate SFS Inc.
