CPIA Partners with CIAC to Launch New Plastics Division

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) joined hands with the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC)       to create a new plastics division. The division is expected to become operational by July next year, subject to CIAC and CPIA Board and member approval.

The two organizations have collaborated on various projects before as well. They had jointly declared waste reduction target for 100% reuse, recycling or recovery of plastic packaging by 2040. Also, they had committed to 100% plastic packaging to be recyclable or recoverable by 2030. In addition, they had joined hands for Operation Clean Sweep-an international program designed to prevent and help keep plastic litter materials out of the marine environment.

The realingnment of the plastics and chemistry sectors is expected to facilitate the shift to a circular economy. It would lead to housing of the new division within the CIAC. This ultimately would see CPIA being wound up and dissolved. The details of the plan would be announced in the coming months.
